Easy cycling - mainly downhill, about 50 km per day; historical and art tours; wine tasting and culinary adventures and a few surprises!
We have carefully curated and designed what we think is the perfect bike adventure in northeastern Spain.
Catalonia is a place of extraordinary beauty: the Pyrenees Mountains plunge into the Mediterranean, rivers carve out wide, lush valleys and medieval villages dot the countryside. For millennia this region has been prized for its landscapes and amazing food and wine.
Our bike tour in Catalonia combines moderate activity with art, culture and fabulous regional cuisine. We start with a full day of cycling in Barcelona, visiting all the important cultural sites including museums, Gaudi’s cathedral and his palaces. In the evening we hit Barcelona’s best (and most obscure) tapas bars. Then it’s off to the Pyrenees, cycling mostly downhill and reaching the Mediterranean Coast several days later, exploring ancient villages and castles along the way. We wheel into Figueres, Salvador Dali’s birthplace and home to his amazing museum. Finally we hike through the surreal landscape of Cap de Creus, which was one of Dali’s haunts and a life-long inspiration for his art.
This exploratory trip is led by Hidden Places founders, Maria Coffey and Dag Goering, along with our team of highly professional bike and cultural guides. We have excellent bikes (including electric assist) and a support vehicle for our luggage and the odd lift when we feel like taking it easy.
Adventure Travel has been our specialty since 1991 when we started to explore the world's most spectacular places as photographers and writers. Several years (and several books) later we began sharing our experiences with others by developing and leading adventure tours. We founded Hidden Places Travel in 2000 and quickly became renowned for our unique, off-the-beaten-track itineraries. Our support of local communities and conservation projects gives our trips unprecedented access and our loyal following of repeat guests is a testament to our professionalism and nurturing approach.
We invite you to join us on one of our life-changing adventures.
